About Yttersia Base

A place born from adventure and belonging

A place born from adventure and belonging

Where every stay becomes an unforgettable experience

Nestled between ocean and mountains on the island of Senja, Yttersia Base is more than a lodge — it’s a vision brought to life by explorer and entrepreneur Markus Bjørkli Jansen, blending outdoor adventure, community, and simple Nordic comfort. Inspired by the raw beauty of Senja in Northern Norway, Yttersia Base was created as a place for travelers, adventurers, and curious souls to connect with nature and themselves.

What started as a personal dream — to bring people closer to the wild landscapes that shaped my own life — has grown into a living hub for experiences, stories, and slow living by the sea.

My story

My name is Markus Bjørkli Jansen, born and raised in a small fishing village on Senja. From the sea to the mountains, adventure has always been my way of understanding the world — from ultra trail races and polar expeditions to exploring new paths in business and life.

After years of working in finance and renewable energy, I wanted to return home — to create something tangible and meaningful. Yttersia Base is my way of combining everything I value: nature, people, and purpose. A place where you can come as you are — to explore, rest, and reconnect.

Sitting Room
Honoring the island, embracing the wild

This place is created with deep respect for Senja — for the weather, the silence, and the people who have lived by the sea for generations. Our goal is to bring visitors closer to this landscape — not by changing it, but by letting it speak for itself. We believe in slow travel, local food, and experiences that feel real and rooted.
